About Courteous Canines

Hello! 

My name is Nicole, I am the face behind Courteous Canines! 

I believe that the best dog training and behaviour modification occurs when we combine ethical training methods, understanding of the canine brain, human-dog relationship building, and goals of confidence building, trust, and increased quality of life. My training focuses on learning the motivations and emotions that drive behaviour, and how to help a dog build the confidence and comfort that pave the way for behaviour change. Training should be fun and stress-free for all dogs and humans involved. 

My dog training journey started with my own rescue dog, when I was 18 and had no idea where to start. I have found many amazing trainers and mentors through the years, who have encouraged and guided me through the beautiful and deeply interesting world of dog training, their brains, motivations and behaviours. I currently have the pleasure of owning an Australian Cattle Dog, whose medical issues and confident personality continue to push me to learn more and advance my training skillset.

IMDT qualified trainer (2023)

Fear Free Shelter Worker (2022)

Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (2017)

Current human and canine First Aid 

Ethics and training methods:

I train without using fear or force, and pride myself in training with science-based and ethical methods. I ensure my training always meets the five domains of animal welfare. I keep up to date with modern knowledge and understanding through extensive continued education opportunities. 

Insurance and Clearances:

I am covered with full Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance. I have a current National Police Check and Working with Children Check.
